Fallout from Hurricane Katrina: Predictions

I am no psychic, but I think there is some merit to these ideas. They are submitted for discussion purposes, so talk amongst yourselves.

1) The emotion of the political finger pointing will slack off, but the finger pointing will become more crafty. Especially by those fighting for their political lives.

2) Many evacuees, those that can, will relocate out of state, thus weakening the tax base in New Orleans. This will lead to even higher demands for ongoing Federal funding.

3) There will be many lessons learned from the catastrophe. Other local governments will take those lessons to heart and prepare better.

UPDATE: Even Gov. Blanco agrees.

4) The better preparation will mitigate the chaos created by the next catastrophic hurricane. If the next catastrophic hurricane occurs in a mostly Caucasian area of the country, and if there are radically different results than those after Katrina, this will be taken in some quarters as proof that racism was the deciding factor during the response to Katrina. And that perception will be exploited full-throttle, again.

UPDATE: Yep. Check out this AP report.

5) The MSM will never acknowledge that they exploited the situation to bash President Bush. Liberal bias means never having to say you're sorry.

6) Hurricanes will continue to strike the United States. Property will be destroyed, then rebuilt. The dead will be buried, the living will mourn, and the cycle of blame will start anew.

Doubtless, there are thoughtful rebuttals to numbers one through five. Number six? Forget it.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin reader Peter W. adds his own prediction here.

UPDATE: A cordial welcome to readers of Ed Driscoll.com, and thanks to Ed for the link. (18 December 2005)
